Work with dogs in a unique and beautiful part of Thailand.

Our goal here at Sangkhalburi Animal Sanctuary is to make a significant and long-term impact on the attitude towards and health/wellbeing of the animals in Sangkhlaburi, and we count on the dedication and motivation of our volunteers to help us achieve this.

Although work at the sanctuary can sometimes be mucky and may not be the most glamorous, caring for animals in such a unique setting as well as getting to know your fellow volunteers will be the experience of a lifetime!

Volunteers will undertake regular daily tasks on a rotating basis, so that everyone gets a chance to work in each area. Tasks include feeding resident animals and inpatients, cleaning enclosures, changing water bowls, washing bedding, walking dogs, assisting the resident vet in caring for sick animals (under their supervision) and socialising with the dogs and cats under our care.

These tasks will be outlined more specifically and assigned during morning meetings/briefings - depending on the number of volunteers there may be more or less for each person to do, so we expect volunteers to be motivated and flexible! Some of these jobs may be dirty, smelly or seem mundane, but they are crucial for the smooth running of the sanctuary. Remember, every task you do is truly making a difference and helping to improve the lives of these animals!

In addition to the general daily tasks there are also various other jobs that need doing around the sanctuary such as DIY jobs, repairs, painting, fixing the dog houses, etc. If you have any ideas for new projects, or if you would like to carve out some time to make videos or take photographs, please let us know!

The sanctuary grounds are also home to our Volunteer Rooms where we have 2 single rooms, 1 double/shared room, as well as a double room with ensuite bathroom for the resident vet. There are an additional 3 shared bathrooms on site (with western toilet and warm shower), as well as a fully equipped communal open kitchen for those who prefer to cook rather than eating out. Upstairs on the upper deck is the volunteer hangout/lounge area where volunteers can relax during their time off.

Please remember that this is a shared space for all volunteers, so we expect everyone to keep communal spaces clean and tidy as well as helping with household chores on a rotating basis.

Sheets and bedding are provided for you however volunteers must bring their own towels! Free wifi is available in the volunteer areas as well as in the clinic. We also have a sanctuary scooter that volunteers can share, and for those who want their own transportation there are places to rent scooters in town.

In addition to the Volunteer Rooms at the sanctuary we have a Volunteer House that is a quick 5 min scooter ride away, which has 2 double/shared bedrooms. Price: ฿150 (approx. €4) per night

If we are already fully booked or for those of you who may prefer a bit more privacy, there are various guest houses within walking distance of the sanctuary, depending on your needs (single rooms with private ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, etc.). Prices range from around ฿300 (approx. €8) per night and up.

The closest international airport to us is in Bangkok, approximately 6-8 hours’ drive away by bus or minivan (including rest stops). This may seem like a long journey, but it is all part of the experience! The views and scenery along the way, especially once you are past the town of Kanchanaburi, are truly stunning and one-of-a-kind.

Once you arrive in Sangkhlaburi we will come and pick you up from the bus station, which is less than 5min drive away from us.

Volunteers generally work 6 days per week, however this is on a rotational basis and depends on the number of volunteers we have at any given time - this means that you might have a different day off each week (and not necessarily on the weekend), depending on how long you stay!
