Short-term volunteers will work approximately 24 hours (3 days) a week. Tuesdays and Thursdays are off. The work can vary between agroforestry, natural building (bioconstruction), organic farming, and other jobs at the farm. After your work day and on your weekends, you are free to do as you please. Many of our volunteers use their weekends to explore Nova Friburgo or Rio de Janeiro.

Once a week, the people of Eco Caminhos unite in the evening to socialize. During these volunteer nights we usually cook together or make a fire outside, but all suggestions are welcome. What matters is that we spend time together.

Depending on the duration and nature of your stay with us or your country of origin, you may be required to obtain different types of visas. Eco Caminhos can not produce documents for you to obtain a volunteer or student visa. We do have a partnership with the Caminhos Language center in Rio de Janeiro. It is possible to do a combined Portuguese course in Rio de Janeiro and Eco Farm experience for 6 to 12 months including a student visa.

If you are only interested in the Eco Farm, the only option is a tourist visa which, depending on your nationality, may allow you to stay in Brazil for up to 90 days.

There are 2 airports in Rio de Janeiro: Galeão, which services international flights, and Santos Dumont, which services domestic flights. To get to Eco Caminhos, you have 2 main options: you can book transport through us, or you can make your own way here using buses & coaches.

1) Getting here with our trusted driver:
We can arrange transport for you from the airport through our local transportation services. The cost will be about R$440 and will take approximately 2 ½ hours.

2) Getting to Eco Caminhos by bus:
You can make your own way via public transport. The cost will be about R$80-120 and take approximately 5-6 hours.
