KTCC is looking for a passionate and dedicated individual who is willing to gain experience in practical conservation work in the areas of coral reef conservation and mangrove restoration.
You will be living on the job site - eating, sleeping and working in our jungle camp with our team of volunteers and project staff. Your main role will be to become a fully integrated team member and assist the camp staff with whatever aspects they require, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
• Mapping the coral reef around the Island
• Conducting surveys about the marine life of the Island
• Taking part in Reef Cleaning projects
• Conducting surveys of the flora and fauna of the Island
• Ensuring the smooth running of the camp, assisting and making sure all camp chores are carried out daily
• Liaising with the resort staff and management on the island
• Helping with our recycling and beach cleaning programs
• Helping record content for our Social Media networks
In 2020 we will also be continuing with the coral reef research, exploring the possibilities for coral restoration in monsoon prone areas. There may be the possibility for applicants with a suitable diving qualifications to be involved in activities such as coral reef maintenance and building and maintaining our coral nursery (as and when these projects are available).
The conservation center is based inside the Tan Marina bay resort, where we have taken over use of all their facilities for this new project. We have a number of accommodation options available at differing prices up to private rooms for couples at extra cost.
The camp is run by solar energy which is stored in batteries, and available in the evening.
Koh Samui
Volunteers will need to get to the island of Koh Samui which they can do either by a direct flight to the island from Bangkok or from Bankok to Surat Thani airport, where they can take a bus and a boat to get to Koh Samui (cheaper option)
Once on the island we will rendezvous with the volunteers and bring them on a short 20min boat ride to our island in the south, all of this island to island transport is covered by us!
Males & Females welcome
Couples accommodated
Families accommodated
Pets NOT allowed
The project is on a vegetarian based diet, but with supermarket trips to the mainland there is the option for volunteers to purchase any extra supplies they need.
Free time on the island allows volunteers to explore to their hearts content on kayaks or on our electric golf carts, or spend time in the sun loungers on the beach. We have a small shop and restaurant in case any extras would like to be bought in down time, but this is primarily a conservation project. Volunteers will receive:
• A daily lessons in reef conservation
• A certified marine conservation diving course (certified divers only)
• A diving course for non divers at a heavily reduced extra cost
• Free tours from the activities we offer
• Stay on a remote tropical paradise island
• Certificate of thanks from the islands Mayor
We have the ability to offer heavily reduced in price diving qualifications to anyone who does not have diving qualifications and would like to receive them.
