Get a paid writing gig with HelpStay

We understand that a paid writing gig is hard to come by; especially for someone who has set their sights on a career in travel writing and working remotely. That’s why we think we can help you get started by supporting you with a paid writing gig.

Who we are

We’re a community of people who travel with a purpose. To us travel is about learning, sharing and growing. That’s why we found a way to make traveling and volunteering easy, safe, affordable and accessible to everyone.

HelpStay provides a highly-vetted and trustworthy online community where Helpers can connect with Hosts to find a safe stay, that suits their skills and interests for giving back.

Who’s our audience

The HelpStay community is a weird and wonderful band of dreamers and altruists. They include crunchy millennials, reformed bankers, ex nuns, draft dodgers, angels, idlers, intrapreneurs, former and current meat eaters, functioning addicts, broke artists, geniuses, doodlers, dog owners, misfits, activists, honeymooners, 9-5ers, hipsters and everything in between.

Members thrive in their own skin and welcome new experiences that challenge their character and ideals. Some of them are busy reinventing while others are busy accepting – themselves. All of them would like to see the world as a better, safer and fairer place.

They’re a clever bunch who are interested in first-hand accounts of living overseas, impact experiences, animal welfare, equality, volunteering, and giving back at every capacity.

Our membership are no strangers to thinking outside the box as many are experts in; sustainable travel, travelling independently, escaping the rat race, gap years, living off grid, self discovery, personal freedom, lifestyle opportunities, living as a digital nomad, breaking free and sabbaticals.

How the paid writing gig works?

What we require

You’re the writer so we’ll leave the content up to you. The only rule is – that it’s relevant to our audience (see above) – inspire them! We’re particularly interested in hearing from writers who have first hand accounts of volunteering overseas.

Take a spin around our platform HelpStay.com as it’ll give you a good idea who we’re geared towards and where we’re trying to go as a community.

For your paid writing gig with us, think what our audience would be interested in reading – and you’ve got it! Remember, no boring stuff.

What we offer

  • We pay Euro €110 or USD $110 per a published article. You tell us which currency. We’ll pick up the PayPal fees too.
  • We’ll help you build your online profile as a bona fide writer. We’ll feature your post in our Journal, promote via social media and showcase the post in our weekly newsletter. It has an audience of 10,000 subscribers.
  • The post will be accompanied by your Gravatar (Gravatar.com) image and a short bio (submitted by you).
  • If we haven’t reached out to you to invite you to our community of writers, you must be able to show us examples of your writing if you’d like to be published in our Journal. This can be as simple as forwarding us your blog link or attaching copy to your email proposal.
  • Writing style is important. We like writing with personality and an original turn of phrase. We take contributors because we want to represent a diverse set of voices and perspectives in our Journal. With that being said, we want your best. Be professional; correct grammar and no typos goes without saying.
  • We need your help promoting the post. You are required to share the post on your social platforms and engage with our network in turn. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter — if you’re active there.
  • Post length – please keep to a minimum of 1200 words +. We like well structured and easy to read lengthy posts.
  • Have some photos you’d like to share with your post? Great! Please include. If we use them, we’ll credit to you.
  • Submissions must be unique and original, and cannot be published elsewhere, in the past or in the future. HelpStay will own an exclusive of your article and publish the post in our Journal.
  • HelpStay reserves the right to edit your post for SEO purposes. This includes altering text, subheadings, and title.
  • Please ensure you include links to authoritative sites where relevant.
