Upon entering the immigration of St. Vincent and the Grenadines you need to be in the possession of a valid return ticket to your country at the end of your stay. This means a return ticket after 6 months if you join the 6 months Climate Compliance program. This is also necessary in order to qualify for a visa extension.

Very few nationalities need a visa prior to arrival. Schengen countries receive 3 months visa on entry with a letter from Richmond Vale Academy - other countries receive 1 month visa. At the end of the period you will apply for a new visa with assistance from Staff.

How to get to Richmond Vale Academy from the airport:
If you arrive early in the daytime it is possible to take a van or a taxi to the Leeward bus station and from there another Van to Chateaubelair but it is a strenuous trip with your luggage; so for the first time travelling in St. Vincent we advise you to take a taxi. We will make an arrival list for your team and book one of our local taxis to pick you up. It will save you app. 30 USD. The taxi driver will have a “Richmond Vale Academy” sign right outside the airport. If others arrive the same time you will share the expenses.

The 6-month Climate Compliance Program at Richmond Vale Academy is a very intense, but highly rewarding program. We initially learned about permaculture from amazing professionals and teachers and then put it into practice both at the Academy and, later, in the local community by building several sustainable permaculture home gardens. If you are looking for a meaningful, hands on project, and if you don´t mind getting your hands dirty, this is the place to go. SVG is a beautiful place with amazing people and your stay at Richmond will teach you more about life in 6 months than you will learn in the next 10 years. You will also have the option to take a scuba diving course, which I did and highly recommend. My advice to future travellers on this program is: Be ready for hard work and strict schedules, but also be ready to enjoy and get to know as much as you can of the island and its people - use every Sunday possible!

Miguel was a very good person in the program. A team player all the way through and always there to help and find solutions if things went wrong, which they often do when you are in a poor Caribbean country. Him and his team moved the Ecological Farming a further step ahead and worked and mobilized people to create a sustainable future for this small island nation. He was well liked by the Vincentians he worked with as well as by staff and other volunteers. Miguel was head of a special action with a secondary school changing a classroom not being used into a very nice library for students and staff. This was a challenging action but it was succeeded to much joy for everyone.

I had a great time at the Richmond Vale Academy. During these six months, I met people from around the world with whom I lived and worked together. Our team consisted of 31 people and together we ran the organic garden at the academy, we learned about climate change and permaculture and we built 20 organic homegardens in the local communities. Our team also did a lot of small projects in subgroups; a beach cleanup, a permaculture project at the prison, developping an agroforestry at the academy and producing a newspaper about 'Local Heroes'. During my stay I also got to know many friendly Vincentians. Moreover, the location of the academy is absolutely breathtaking, with a view on the ocean and on La Sourfriere vulcano. The program is intense but during your spare time you can explore the beautiful nature, hike the vulcano, obtain diving certificates or just relax at the beach. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience!

Bastiaan is a great Team player - with a lot of integrity, courage to speak up and Perseverance in any given situation.
Bastiaan and his team made a big difference moving the whole Climate Compliance Program forward.
Several families that got help making their organic home garden have been in touch since the completion and the gardens are making a big difference in their lives.
Bastiaan and his team also carried out several other projects of big importance such as a movie, podcast and newspaper developing the whole agroforestry farming at the Academy.
It is such a pleasure to work with dedicated and hard working people like Bastiaan and we wish you all the best for your future and hope to see you again some day!
